Fly-posting

How we are tackling the problem of fly-posting and how you can help us by reporting it.

Fly-posting is the display of advertising material on buildings and street furniture without the owner's permission. It is against the law.

Penalties for fly-posting

Police and our authorised officers can issue a fixed penalty notice (FPN) of £500 for fly-posting offences. This helps cover the costs of removing the material.

It is also criminal damage and this can mean a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

Report fly-posting

You can report fly-posting by:

  • downloading the Love Clean Streets app to your phone from Google Play or the Apple store
  • logging into your My Islington account or signing up if you do not have one so you can track your reports and access more services, like council tax
  • reporting it privately on the Love Clean Streets website - you will not be able to track your report if you choose this option

Permission to advertise

Sometimes we give permission to display adverts, if they meet our standards.

To ask for permission to advertise, email details of the advert, where it should go and how long it will be up for to neighbourhood.patrol@islington.gov.uk.
