Help us understand how you use the council website

We are redesigning the council website to make it easier for you to find support and access council services online.

Your feedback is important - please help shape future improvements by taking a short test to help us understand what works well and where people may get stuck.

Report a communal repair

If you are a council tenant or leaseholder, tell us if something needs fixing in a communal area.

Communal areas include:

  • stairs and landings
  • door entry systems
  • lifts
  • drains
  • doors and windows in shared spaces
  • gardens, paving, fencing, and other shared outdoor areas

Before reporting the repair, you can check with your Quality Assurance Officer or Estate Services Coordinator to see if it has already been reported.

Report a communal repair

Email repairs@islington.gov.uk to report a communal repair.

You'll need to tell us:

  • your full name and address
  • phone number
  • what needs to be repaired
  • preferred access times, if any

Or use WhatsApp to report a communal repair.

Our automated chat service will:

  • ask a few questions
  • help you book an appointment

Emergency communal repairs

Call 020 7527 5400 if the repair:

  • is a danger to health, safety or security
  • cannot wait until the next working day

Check if your repair is an emergency.

What happens next

We aim to complete most communal repairs in 20 working days.

If the repair is an emergency, we aim to repair it or make it safe in 2 hours.

We might not complete a repair in 20 working days if:

  • it requires leaseholder contributions, leaseholders need to be informed and consulted
  • it's already scheduled as part of a works programme
  • we need to order special parts, which may take time
  • it's a more expensive repair which must go out to tender so we get the best value

Attend an inspection

You can get involved with checking repair standards in communal areas by attending estate inspections.
